An autumn afternoon's birthday spent reflecting on a knoll high above the Pacific, sighted through eucalyptus and pines. A piano calls for attention in a quiet room nearby. My fingers find their way in a new key, wandering while my heart listens, line by line, to this new song.

LONG BEFORE ©2009 Words and Music by Mike Dakota Long before the world was round, you flew over solid ground. Long before this time, you knew. Long before your present form, you were in a body warm. Long before this time, you knew . . . a child. Now you look up at the stars, and you wonder who you are. Long before this time, you knew. You traded in innocence, forgot common sense, Long before this time, you knew . . . a child. Now, you look out through the eyes of a woman, you feel deep in the heart of a man. Somehow a child has been forgotten, but, you don't understand, a child remains in you, a child. Now, you watch children play, and you wish you were that way. Long before this time, you knew When you think you've learned enough, you've forgotten how to love . . . a child. All your life, you have been hoping that what you feel is right. Now a door has finally opened and you can see inside. A child remains in you . . . a child. A child . . . a child. A child remains.
